Antiques come from the Latin word ‘antiquus’ which means old or ancient and they are collectables items that are tend to be one hundred or more years old. These items are usually collected and desired due to their age, beauty, rarity, condition and unique features. It is an object or item that resembles a previous era or time period within human society.

Antiques can include a mix of home décor, items, furniture, clothes, jewellery, car, wine, stamp, coins, artwork and other items offered at a variety of prices. These items can be used to redecorate home or offices. Antiques come from the Latin word ‘antiquus’ which means old or ancient, and the items are usually collected and desired due to their age, beauty, rarity, condition and uniqueness. These are passion investments where the motivation is to own a valuable piece of history. Some items have high delivery, maintenance, storage and other ongoing costs. 

The value of antiques cannot be identified through up-to-date appraisals as it has an adverse impact on taxes and liquidity. The price can be affected by a variety of factors like an economic downturn, markets or a change in fashion trend, where it may have no or little liquidity. There is no guarantee that it will maintain the value in future. In some items, tax management may become complicated and can hit the entire portfolio. 

Negotiating with knowledgeable dealers can help buyers get items through fair trade practices that can remove a lot of uncertainties. It is advised to get such items through reliable auctions or dealers. The price of items is determined by rarity, craftsmanship, current tastes, fashion trends and materials, where one antique may get a higher resale value in comparison to the similar another one. 

Collecting antique is like a treasure hunt for millennials, who have their own way to determine the value of such items. High net worth young millennials like to buy vintages from the 1970s and 1980s, or a combination of old and new, where they seek environmental- friendly rare luxury items and invest in second-hand antiques to support sustainability to reduce carbon footprints.
