The garnets are January birthstones, linked to spirituality due to the deep majestic colour variations. It is almost 200 times rarer than emeralds, and many jewellery designers seek such coloured gemstones due to their intense hues and extraordinary brilliance. The stones are relatively less popular but can be bought by some investors as it offers diversification through small acquisitions and sometimes, provides huge returns on holding onto for a prolonged period of time. Mostly the buyers need to get a long-term view and be aware of negatives like it does not generate a yield, instead may need expenses on transportation or storage. Even the auctions incur heavy fees, yet some unique qualities can get sizeable profit to the owners. 

First recognized by Campbell R. Bridges, in 1967, in the North East of Tanzania, Tsavorite Garnets became famous for the clear transparency where the name was suggested by Tiffany & Co.’s Sir Henry Platt.  Garnets evoke friendship, compassion and devotion, create an emotional connect and are associated with positive vibrations. These were worn by the pharaohs and were considered prized possessions by the Egyptians, while, were traded as jewellery by the Romans. These were also used in stamps for sealed contracts. These were called the traveller’s stone as the stories claim the Noah’s Ark had a garnet to navigate in dark. 

Tsavorite is vibrant green and the most expansive of the garnets. It was first found in East Africa mines in lower carats that are considered mediocre in the gem markets; notwithstanding, the rarest are found over 4 carats.  The price of the limited ones can reach up to $8000 a carat.
